Day 1: Staal Foundation Open
Man was not made to live in the water or the sky. That, I
hypothesize, is why we inhabit the land. My best guess is that every now and
then, the water and sky collaborate and conspire to invade the land in the form
of inclement weather out of jealousy and spite for our relationship to the land.
It’s raining. This kills the golf.
The first round of the Staal Foundation Open was not a
rousing success in any facet. I caught wind of a player attempting a 2-foot
putt only to have the now-swamplike green say ‘no’ to the ball rolling
anywhere. Nice little summary of the day right there.
The players who started early were able to finish a round.
The ones who did not; did not. One player is in the lead at -6, so hats off (and
then immediately back on) to Chad Ramey who I assume practices the sport of golf
at the bottom of a swimming pool.
Anywhere from 6-8 spectators braved the elements to come out
and see some how wet everyone can get if they stand in the rain for a few
hours. The answer? Very. I commend their dedication and question their sanity.
What does the sun look like?
The rest of the weekend looks like the weather will, will
not, then will cooperate over the next 3 days. Hoping for the best. I’d really
like some golf to happen. Should be a good time too; this event is, as the kids
say, ‘pretty fun and entertaining.’

fill the void if not for the intern.
